How to Send Money to Facility
Sending money to someone at the Powledge Unit comes down to two things: confirming you're eligible to send it, and staying within the purchase limits if you're using TDCJ eCommDirect.
Before adding money to an inmate's account, confirm you're eligible to deposit. As of September 1, 2020, TDCJ only accepts deposits from people on the inmate's approved visitor list or the inmate's Inmate Telephone List. If you're not on one of those lists, your deposit can be rejected.
If you're using TDCJ eCommDirect to make online commissary purchases for an eligible inmate, keep the quarterly spending limits in mind. Approved friends and family can spend up to $70.00 per quarter for January through March, April through June, and July through September. The October through December quarter bumps up to $95.00 (holiday spend).
Sec2
- ✓ Confirm you are on the inmate’s approved visitor list or the inmate’s Inmate Telephone List before you attempt to deposit money.
- ✓ If you are making online purchases through TDCJ eCommDirect, track the quarterly cap: $70.00 for Jan–Mar, $70.00 for Apr–Jun, $70.00 for Jul–Sep, and $95.00 for Oct–Dec (holiday spend).
If a deposit doesn't go through, check your list status first. Contact the facility or go through the proper TDCJ process to confirm you're actually on the inmate's approved visitor list or Inmate Telephone List. Those lists control who can deposit money.
Double-check the current eCommDirect rules before placing an order, too. The published quarterly limits are $70.00 for January through September and $95.00 for October through December (holiday spend), but policies can change. It's worth confirming the limit for the quarter you're ordering in.
