Where to Mail Letters Now: TDCJ’s Digital Mail Processing Center (Dallas) — What to send and what to send to the unit

TDCJ changed where incoming personal mail needs to go, and sending it to the wrong address is one of the easiest ways to get your letter or photos delayed or rejected. Here's the exact Dallas address to use, plus the few exceptions that still go directly to the unit.

As of September 6, 2023, all TDCJ units use a digital mail platform for incoming personal mail. Your letter no longer goes to the unit as original paper. Instead, it's routed through a processing center, scanned, and delivered to the inmate as digital correspondence.

For personal mail, greeting cards, and photos, address your envelope to the Dallas Digital Mail Processing Center exactly like this: Texas Department of Criminal Justice Inmate's Full First and Last Name + TDCJ Number PO Box 660400 Dallas, TX 75266-0400 The full name and TDCJ number are what match your mail to the right person. Take an extra minute to double-check both before you send anything.

  • Use the inmate’s full first and last name (spelled correctly)
  • Include the inmate’s TDCJ number
  • Mail it to PO Box 660400, Dallas, TX 75266-0400
  • Address it to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (Digital Mail Processing Center)

Personal letters, greeting cards, and photos all go to the Dallas processing center address. Those items are scanned and uploaded so the inmate can view them on their secure tablet.

Note: If your loved one has a tablet, digital mail is delivered there. If they don't have a tablet, they'll still receive the mail as printed copies (see below).

A few categories skip the Dallas processing center entirely. Legal mail, media mail, books, magazines, packages, and subscriptions from verified publishers all need to go directly to the inmate's unit address, not the Dallas PO Box.

If an inmate doesn't have a tablet, they'll receive black-and-white printed copies of their digital correspondence instead.
