Mail Restrictions at Prince William–Manassas ADC: What You Can and Cannot Send

Inmates at Prince William–Manassas ADC can send and receive unlimited mail. That's good news if you're trying to stay connected. Just make sure what you send follows the restrictions below - otherwise it may get rejected.

Every piece of incoming and outgoing mail gets checked for contraband. Keep your envelopes and contents simple so they can be processed without issues.

  • Put the inmate’s jail number on every piece of correspondence.
  • Use a complete return address on anything you mail.
  • If you send a money order, include the inmate’s name and jail number.
  • Do not send cash or personal checks.

  • Pens or pencils
  • Plastic cards
  • Phone cards
  • Stickers
  • Anything glued together
  • Staples
  • White-out
  • Glue
  • Cut-up pieces of paper
  • Glitter (including glitter pens)
  • Confetti
  • Inappropriate pictures or drawings (including images with hand gestures of any kind or weapons)
  • Perfume, lipstick, or any foreign substance

Sending photos? Limit it to 10 per envelope, and each photo must be 6x9 inches or smaller. Polaroids aren't accepted - stick to standard photo prints.

Note: Inappropriate photos received from a third-party vendor will be shredded.

Skip the padded or protected envelopes - and don't send mail "flats." The facility will refuse them and send them back to you.

The one exception: legal mail. Padded envelopes and flats are allowed only when sent directly from an attorney.

Religious materials have their own rules. They must come directly from the publisher and be approved by the Jail Chaplain. Any religious books need to be soft cover - hardbacks will be refused.
