The Visitor List at Prince William Detention Center: Limits, Changes, and What If You're Not Approved

Each inmate at Prince William Detention Center can have up to six people on their visitor list. The list is tied to the inmate's privilege level, which means how it's used may depend on their status inside the jail.

Once set, the visitor list isn't something that can be swapped around week to week. Changes are only allowed every four months. If multiple family members want to visit, coordinate ahead of time to decide who gets listed first.

Not on the approved list yet? You won't be able to visit. At Prince William Detention Center, visits don't start until the inmate completes classification (usually within 72 hours) and submits a visitation list. Even close family may have to wait until both steps are done.

Tip: If you're not on the visitation list, your visit will be denied. The inmate needs to add you, and the facility must have the updated list on file before you can come.

Being on the approved list doesn't guarantee a visit. New inmates can't receive visitors until they complete classification - usually within 72 hours - and submit their visitation list. And if the inmate is housed in the disciplinary unit, visits aren't allowed at all.

Note: Disciplinary-unit housing blocks all visitation. Visits can resume once the inmate is moved out of that unit.
