How to Put Money on an Inmate’s Commissary or Phone Account at Prince George's County CC
Putting money on someone's commissary or phone account at Prince George's County Correctional Center is straightforward once you know your options. Here's what you need to know about deposit methods, fees, timing, and how cash and valuables are handled during intake and release.
When someone is booked into Prince George's County Correctional Center, staff inventory and secure any money and valuables through the Finance Office. Cash gets counted and deposited into an institutional account under the inmate's name.
Note: Valuables collected at intake are labeled and placed in a locked storage area.
Released on a weekend? You can have money and valuables mailed, or pick them up at the Finance Office. Pickup hours are Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays have split hours: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
You have two ways to deposit funds: in person at the two kiosks in the Reception area, or online through the facility's deposit website. The kiosks take both cash and credit cards. Online deposits are credit card only. Skip the checks and money orders - they aren't accepted for commissary deposits here.
- ✓ Deposits are limited to no more than $150 per week (this limit applies whether you use the Reception kiosks or deposit online).
- ✓ Deposits made at the kiosks or through the website are posted to the inmate’s account the next business day.
Every deposit comes with a fee. The published fee schedule (dated January 2009) lists $2.50 for cash deposits. Credit card fees scale with the amount: $3.50 for $25 and under, $4.25 for $25.01 to $50, $5.50 for $50.01 to $100, and $8.50 for $100.01 to $150. Since this schedule is from 2009, call ahead to verify current fees before you deposit.
