How to Send Mail to Prince George's County Correctional Center (effective Nov 1, 2025)
Sending mail to someone at Prince George's County Correctional Center after Nov. 1, 2025? Here's what you need to know: all mail is now delivered digitally to the recipient's tablet, which means getting the address and format right is essential.
Starting November 1, 2025, mail goes digital - letters are scanned and delivered to the recipient's assigned tablet. The old mailing address no longer works. If you send to the previous address, your letter may never arrive.
Send all correspondence to: P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131.
Addressing requirements are strict. Your envelope must include both your first and last name (as the sender) and the incarcerated person's first and last name. Use their legal/committed name - not a nickname. Mail goes to P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131.
Nickname warning: If you use a street name, nickname, or any name other than the incarcerated individual’s legal/committed name, the mail will be rejected and not processed.
Use a white envelope for personal mail, including greeting cards. Non-white envelopes get rejected.
Stick to plain white paper or standard white lined paper. Colored stationery or paper with images printed on it won't be accepted.
Photos are allowed, but keep them 4x6 inches or smaller. You can include up to five photos per envelope - any more and they may be rejected.
Heads up: Hard-cover items (including hard cover books) will be rejected.
Publications have size limits: no larger than 8.5 inches by 11 inches, and no thicker than three inches. Anything bigger gets rejected.
Newspapers and magazines must be prepaid and sent directly from the publisher through U.S. Mail. You can't use the inmate's account to purchase these items.
Step By Step Checklist
- ✓ Address it to P.O. Box 247, Phoenix, MD 21131
- ✓ Put both first and last names on the envelope (sender and incarcerated individual)
- ✓ Use the incarcerated individual’s legal/committed name (no nicknames)
- ✓ Use a white envelope only (including for greeting cards)
- ✓ Write on plain white or standard white lined paper
- ✓ If you include photos: 4x6 or smaller, and no more than five per envelope
- ✓ For newspapers/magazines: make sure they’re prepaid and sent directly from the publisher (not purchased using an inmate account)
Hard-cover items - including books - get rejected. So does anything that doesn't meet the format rules. Keep it simple: use the correct name, plain white paper, and a white envelope. That gives your mail the best chance of getting through.
