What to Do If Your Mail to Prince George's County CC Is Rejected (Appeal Steps)

When Prince George's County CC rejects a letter, book, magazine, or newspaper, you'll get a written notice. It spells out exactly which rule triggered the rejection - so you can decide whether to fix the issue and resend, or challenge the decision.

Note: Keep the rejection letter. It explains the reason for the rejection and includes the appeal form you’ll need to submit.

What to Do If Your Mail to Prince George's County CC Is Rejected (Appeal Steps)
  1. Find the appeal form - Use the appeal form printed on the opposite side of the rejection letter.
  2. Complete the appeal in writing - Fill it out carefully so it’s clear which rejected item you’re appealing and who it involves.
  3. Act within the deadline - You and the incarcerated individual each have twenty (20) days to submit a written appeal.
  • The rejection letter (keep it and use the appeal form on the opposite side)
  • A completed written appeal using that form
  • Any supporting information you want considered
  • Follow the return/mailing instructions printed on the rejection notice

Both you (the sender) and the incarcerated individual have twenty (20) days to file an appeal. Once the facility receives it, the Deputy Director, Bureau of Operations reviews your case and responds in writing within fourteen (14) business days. The response will either grant the appeal or explain the penological reason for upholding the rejection.

Deadlines to remember: You have 20 days to file a written appeal, and the facility’s written decision should come within 14 business days after they receive it.

Sending mail again? Start with the easiest fix: get the names right. Prince George's County CC requires both the sender's and recipient's first and last legal names. Nicknames, street names, or anything other than the incarcerated individual's legal/committed name can get your mail rejected without processing.
