Quehanna Visiting Room Rules: Physical Contact, Children’s Play Area, Capacity and Visit Lengths

Contact visits at Quehanna are scheduled for three hours. That said, the facility can cut visits short if circumstances require it - so think of three hours as a maximum, not a guarantee. Virtual visits run 45 minutes. If you're trying to include multiple family members, that shorter window changes how you plan the conversation and who joins.

Heads up: Contact visits are scheduled for three hours, but they may be cut shorter if circumstances dictate.

Contact visits allow up to three visitors at a time, and at least one must be an adult (18 or older). If you're coming with a larger group, decide ahead of time who goes in together. Virtual visits can include up to six pre-scheduled visitors - more flexibility for extended family, but everyone needs to be on the schedule in advance.

Physical contact between adults is limited to an embrace and a kiss at the beginning and end of the visit. That's it. Anything beyond that can end your visit immediately, and the inmate may face discipline. Keep contact brief and stick to those moments.

Small children can sit on the inmate's lap during the visit, which helps family time feel more natural for little ones. There's also a small play area for visitors 12 and under. It's designed to keep kids occupied, especially when they can't sit still for long conversations.

Note: You’re expected to keep children under control. If they aren’t supervised, the visit can be ended early.

The visiting room has a hard cap of 77 people - inmates, visitors, and staff combined. On busy days, that limit can affect timing or availability, so be prepared for possible delays.

Visits can be ended early when rules aren't followed. The most common reason? Physical contact that goes beyond what's allowed. For adults, that means anything more than an embrace and kiss at the start and end. Break this rule, and your visit may be terminated - plus the inmate could face discipline. Child supervision is another frequent issue. Small children can sit on the inmate's lap, and there's a play area for kids 12 and under. But you're responsible for keeping them under control. If staff feel your children aren't being supervised, they can cut the visit short.
