Visitation

What to Wear (and What Not to Wear) When Visiting Someone at Reception Medical Center

Dress code is one of the most common reasons visits get delayed or denied. Keep your outfit simple, follow the rules below, and you should get through check-in without any surprises.

You must wear a shirt to enter the visiting area at Reception Medical Center. Not sure if something counts? Go with a regular T-shirt, blouse, or button-down instead of testing borderline options at the door.

Shoes are required. Stick with standard, everyday footwear so you are not scrambling at the last minute.

No Heelys: Shoes with built-in wheels are not allowed, even if they look like regular sneakers.

No removable footwear parts: If your shoes have pieces that detach or come apart (even small add-ons), swap them for a plain pair.

No camouflage: Military-style camo in any color or style is prohibited. Leave camo jackets, pants, and hats at home.

Length matters for skirts, dresses, and Bermuda-length shorts. At Reception Medical Center, anything more than 3 inches above the knee is not permitted. If you are close to that cutoff, go with something longer so you are not second-guessing yourself in the parking lot.

  • ✓ Check length standing up in front of a mirror, not sitting down.
  • ✓ If the hem lands more than 3 inches above your knee, pick a longer option.
  • ✓ When you are between sizes or lengths, go with the more conservative choice.
  • ✓ If you are unsure, switch to pants or a longer skirt or dress so you are clearly within the rule.

Bring a valid picture ID if you are 16 or older. You will need it to enter the visiting area.

Entry Checks Tips

  • ✓ Wear a shirt.
  • ✓ Wear shoes (and skip Heelys).
  • ✓ Avoid any footwear with removable parts.
  • ✓ Do not wear military-style camouflage of any type or color.
  • ✓ If you are wearing a dress, skirt, or Bermuda-length shorts, make sure it is not more than 3 inches above the knee.
  • ✓ If you are 16 or older, bring a valid picture ID.

When in doubt, pick the safer outfit. I recommend calling Reception Medical Center ahead of time if your clothing is close to the 3-inch-above-the-knee limit or your shoes have unusual features. Show up with a plain shirt, standard shoes, no camouflage, and the right ID (if you are 16+), and you can focus on your visit instead of your outfit.
