How to Schedule Your First Video Visit at Rappahannock Regional Jail

If your loved one was just booked into Rappahannock Regional Jail, you won't be able to schedule a visit right away. Inmates aren't eligible for visitation during the first 72 hours while the jail completes classification and assigns housing. Sometimes this process takes longer. If you try to book during that window, you'll likely see an error message until the inmate becomes eligible in the system.

Plan your visit group carefully. The jail limits each inmate to two visitors total - and that count includes babies and children. Bringing a child? They must be added to the reservation ahead of time, and anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian present for the entire visit. Show up with extra people or an unlisted child, and you can be turned away.

Everyone who plans to visit needs their own registered visitor account with a separate email address. Two adults attending? That means two different emails and two accounts. Don't try to share one login between visitors.

You're responsible for scheduling the visit - jail staff won't do it for you. Once you reserve a slot, stick to what's on the confirmation. Only the individuals listed will be allowed to visit, and there are no walk-ins. Think of that confirmation as your approved list for that specific appointment.

You can schedule regular visits online within a tight window: 24 to 72 hours in advance. These visits happen Monday through Friday only, so you'll be picking a weekday slot when you book.

Each inmate gets one visit per week, lasting 45 minutes. Can't find availability? The weekly visit may already be used.

When scheduling, you'll choose between an at-home video visit or an on-site visit. Either option counts as the inmate's one 45-minute visit for the week - you don't get one of each. Availability may also depend on the inmate's housing unit rules or disciplinary status. If they're not in general population, visits might not be available until they return.

Treat your visit time like an appointment you can't miss. Visits start at the exact time you selected. Ten minutes late? The system cancels automatically. For video visits, log in a few minutes early so a slow connection or forgotten password doesn't cost you the slot.

Sometimes cancellations have nothing to do with you. If the inmate has a court date on the day of your visit, the Renovo Scheduler will automatically cancel it. You'll need to wait and reschedule after they return to their housing area.

2. Pick a new time within the allowed window - reschedule for a slot that’s 24–72 hours out, after the inmate has returned to their housing area.
3. Confirm the right visitors are attached to the reservation - make sure each visitor is registered with their own email/account, and that the names on the confirmation match who will actually attend.

Professional visitors (non-clergy) should complete registration first, then email credentials (ID, BAR card, and/or work badge) to RRJLOBBY@RRJ.STATE.VA.US for approval.
