How to Schedule Your First Visit at Rappahannock Regional Jail
Scheduling your first visit at Rappahannock Regional Jail is straightforward once you understand the timing rules. Here's how to get on the calendar without getting tripped up.
On-site visits at Rappahannock Regional Jail happen Monday through Friday only, so plan around weekday availability. You'll book through the Renovo-Web Scheduler, and the window is tight: 24–72 hours in advance. Setting up an at-home video visit? You'll need to pay for each session before the visit takes place.
Heads up: Both on-site visits and at-home video visits use the same 24–72 hour scheduling window in Renovo, so you can’t book farther out than that.
Before you try to schedule, confirm your loved one is actually eligible. RRJ doesn't allow visits during the first 72 hours of incarceration - the jail needs time to complete classification and housing placement. Sometimes this takes longer than 72 hours. Once they're eligible, remember: inmates get one 45-minute visit per week, so popular slots fill up fast.
- Plan your timing - Choose a day and time that falls within Renovo’s 24–72 hour scheduling window.
- Enter the inmate’s details - You’ll need the inmate’s legal name and their Jail ID number to schedule.
- Provide your visitor information - Be ready with an official photo ID (the visitor must be 18 or older), plus your home address, telephone number, and email address.
- Handle payment for at-home video - If you’re scheduling an at-home video visit, you must pay for the session before the visit.
- ✓ Inmate legal name
- ✓ Inmate Jail ID number
- ✓ Your official photo ID (visitor must be 18+)
- ✓ Your home address
- ✓ Your telephone number
- ✓ Your email address
- ✓ Payment method (required for each scheduled at-home video session before the visit)
Timing matters. You need to be signed up at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit, and visits start exactly on time. Show up 10 minutes late? The visit gets automatically cancelled. Build in extra buffer and don't cut it close.
Visits at RRJ use video teleconference equipment, and you'll book your time online. Since inmates get one 45-minute visit per week, coordinate with other family members so you're not competing for the same slot. Having trouble scheduling? The most common reason is eligibility - during the first 72 hours (and sometimes longer if classification isn't finished), the system won't let you book.
Note: If the inmate has a scheduled court date on the day of your visit, the Renovo Scheduler will automatically cancel the visit.
Troubleshoot
- ✓ If you can’t schedule yet, check whether the inmate is still within the first 72 hours of incarceration (classification/placement period).
- ✓ If a visit disappears or won’t hold, check for a court date on the scheduled visit day - Renovo will automatically cancel in that situation.
