Bring photo identification. Rappahannock Regional Jail requires a photo ID for all visitors. Staff will check it before letting you in.

  • DMV-issued ID or driver’s license with a current photo
  • Passport
  • Military ID
  • Current school ID (minors only)
  • Birth certificate and/or legal custody agreement (for minors)

Note: Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times. Be ready to show the minor’s required documentation (like a current school ID, and if needed, a birth certificate or legal custody paperwork).

Leave anything meant for the inmate at home. You cannot bring items for an inmate into the visitation area.

Bring a quarter. The facility has lockers for storing personal items you can't take into visitation, and they require a quarter to operate.

Expect to be searched. Everyone entering the premises is subject to search. Dress and pack with that in mind to keep check-in moving.

Warning: If you’re intoxicated or appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, you will not be permitted to remain on the premises.

Once you're in the visitation area, stay seated the entire time. Standing in the booth or stacking chairs is prohibited. Keep your behavior appropriate: no profanity, no damaging equipment or the facility. Damage can lead to criminal charges and restitution. Breaking any rule can end your visit early.

Plan around the two-visitor limit. Only two visitors are allowed per inmate, and that count includes babies and children. Decide ahead of time who's going in.

  1. Add the child to the visit ahead of time. A baby or child must be added to the visit in order to bring the child to the visit.
  2. Bring the right adult and paperwork. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian at all times, and you may need to show custody documentation for the child.
  3. Count the child as one of the two visitors. The two-visitor maximum per inmate includes babies and children.
