Visitation

How to Get Approved to Visit Someone at LCIW (Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women)

Getting approved to visit at LCIW starts with a mailed application and a background check. Here's how the process works, so you can avoid common delays.

At LCIW, the incarcerated person kicks off the process by mailing a visiting application to the people they want on their visitor list. Once you receive it, fill it out and mail it back to LCIW. Use regular mail only. LCIW does not accept faxed applications.

After LCIW receives your completed application, staff will process it and run a criminal background check. That check factors into the approval decision, so expect a waiting period while the institution reviews everything.

  • Conviction for introducing or supplying contraband
  • Conviction for possession or delivery of explosives
  • Conviction for assisting an escape

Documents ID

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid state photo ID card
  • Active-duty military photo ID
  • Valid passport

If you need an ADA-related accommodation to visit, you can request one. LCIW will make reasonable accommodations to help maintain family visits.

Once your application and background check are complete, the institution makes an approval or denial decision. LCIW notifies the incarcerated person of the outcome. From there, they're responsible for letting you know whether you've been approved.

Note: If the background check turns up a disqualifying conviction (such as contraband-related offenses, explosives, or assisting an escape), the application will be denied. You'll typically hear about the denial through the incarcerated person.
