What You Can't Bring to Visits at Raymond Laborde C.C.: Complete Prohibited Items List

Controlled substances aren't allowed in the visiting area at Raymond Laborde C.C. Have a prescription? Don't assume that makes it okay - only certain life-saving or life-sustaining medications qualify for an exception. Everything else stays out.

Alcoholic beverages are also prohibited in the visiting area. That includes any drink that produces - or could produce - an intoxicating effect.

Leave tobacco and tobacco-related items behind. Cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, and similar products aren’t allowed in the visiting area.

Cameras and recording equipment of any kind are prohibited. Even a quick photo or voice memo isn't allowed - recording devices are treated as contraband during visits.

No electronic devices in the visiting area. Cell phones, pagers, BlackBerries, radios, tape recorders - all prohibited. That includes accessories like portable memory chips, batteries, and chargers. Leave everything secured outside before check-in, or you'll be turned away.

One exception to the "no items" rule: prescribed medication that's life-saving or life-sustaining is allowed. Think nitroglycerine pills, inhalers, oxygen - emergency or essential medication only. Routine prescriptions don't qualify.

Bringing a permitted medication? Keep the quantity to only what you need for the visit - nothing extra.

  • Tell the staff at the visiting desk when you arrive that you have life-saving or life-sustaining prescribed medication with you.
  • Keep the medication clearly identifiable as prescribed (for example, in its original container/packaging).
  • Follow staff directions during check-in and any search procedures.

Go in with as little as possible. Purses, wallets, cash, outside food and drinks - all of these can cause problems at the entrance. Leave them secured outside and carry only what's explicitly allowed.

If you’re visiting with an infant, there are limited baby-item allowances. You may bring up to four diapers and two jars of vacuum-sealed baby food into the visiting area.

Packing matters. Infant items (except a baby blanket) must go in a single clear plastic container - a gallon-size zip-lock bag works - so staff can inspect everything quickly.

Reminder: If you’re bringing permitted medication or approved infant supplies, tell the staff at the visiting desk when you arrive and be ready for the items to be searched.
