You'll need a GettingOut.com account to keep sending messages and photos once the tablets are upgraded. If you wait until the upgrade is already underway, you could end up scrambling to get set up at the exact moment you're trying to stay in touch.

The Indiana Department of Correction is rolling out ViaPath Command 5.0 tablets, which run an upgraded operating system and support a wider selection of Android apps. That upgrade is why GettingOut account setup matters right now: communication features on the new tablets tie directly back to your GettingOut.com access.

  1. Go to gettingout.com. Use a web browser on your computer.
  2. Click “Create Account.” This starts the sign-up process.
  3. Enter your date of birth. This confirms your age.
  4. Click “Create Account” again. Continue with the account creation after confirming your age.
  1. Agree to the terms. Confirm the required items in the terms and conditions screen.
  2. Complete your profile. Provide your date of birth and the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
  3. Add your loved one as a contact. Use the GettingOut app to find and add contacts.

Note: To receive a VisitNow request, you need to be signed into the GO Visits mobile app. VisitNow push notifications work on mobile devices only, not when you are signed into the web.

Command 5.0 tablets run an upgraded operating system with a wider selection of Android apps. For your loved one, that means a newer tablet experience and more app options available through the system.

The hardware is different, too. Command 5.0 tablets include two headphone jacks and magnetic charging.

Heads up: Once tablets are upgraded, you'll need a GettingOut.com account to send messages and photos.

Command 5.0 tablets are being deployed across IDOC, so changes may arrive at different times depending on your loved one's location. Getting your GettingOut account set up ahead of time means you'll be ready as communication shifts to the upgraded system.

Costs Messaging Voice

  • Messaging: $0.50 per message
  • Voice: $0.33 per minute

Keep in mind: Tablets remain state property. Incarcerated individuals can be held responsible for intentionally lost or damaged tablets or accessories.

Your loved one's first pair of tablet headphones is provided at no cost. If they need a replacement or additional pair, those have to be purchased through commissary.

These tablets don't connect to the public internet. They run on a separate intranet, so incarcerated individuals cannot access social media (like Facebook or Twitter) or browse any outside webpages.
