What to Expect When You Arrive at RADF: Check-In, ID, and Search Process
Your first visit can feel stressful if you don't know what to expect. Here's how arriving at RADF works—when to sign up, what ID you'll need, and what you can (and can't) bring inside.
Sign-ups for visits open at 7:00 am and close at 6:30 pm on visiting days. You'll need to sign up at least one hour before your scheduled visit time. Spots fill first-come, first-served, so arriving early makes everything smoother. RADF resumed in-person barrier visits on March 20, 2023, which means you'll check in on-site and present your ID as part of the sign-up process.
- ✓ A valid local, state, or federal U.S. government identification card (you’ll present it at sign-up/visit)
- ✓ An ID that shows your name, date of birth, and a photograph
- ✓ A current (not expired) ID
You may be searched before or during your visit. Travel light, follow staff instructions the first time, and leave anything you don't absolutely need in the car. Not sure if something's allowed? Ask early - it's faster than getting pulled out of line later.
Allowed Items
- ✓ Identification (your ID)
- ✓ A wallet
- ✓ Car keys and/or home keys
- ✓ No purses, bags, or other items inside the facility
Note: You're responsible for storing and securing anything you don't bring inside. The Imperial County Sheriff's Department isn't liable for items left unattended.
- If you’re told your ID won’t work - Double-check that it’s a valid local, state, or federal U.S. government ID and that it’s current (not expired).
- If sign-up seems full or you’re worried you missed the cutoff - Remember sign-ups are first-come, first-served, and you must sign up at least one hour before the scheduled visit time.
- If you need the official answer right away - Call RADF visitation information at (442) 265-2266.
