What to Bring (and What to Leave Behind) When Visiting Reno County Correctional Facility
Quick Checklist
- ✓ Photo ID
- ✓ Keys
Everyone entering Reno County Correctional Facility gets searched. You can only bring your photo ID and keys into the visitation room - everything else stays behind.
If it's not your photo ID or keys, leave it behind. Purses, bags, and anything else you'd normally carry must stay in your vehicle or go in the lobby lockers. And don't bring items for the person you're visiting - no packages of any kind are accepted during visitation.
Leave your phone in the car. Cell phones, cameras, and other electronics are prohibited in the visitation room. Even keeping it in your pocket counts - if it's on you, your visit could get shut down before it starts.
No drinks allowed in the visitation room - no water bottles, no coffee cups, nothing. Finish yours in the car or toss it before you go through screening.
Reminder: No packages of any kind will be accepted at the time of visitation. If you need to send something, the handbook states all correspondence must be done by mail.
Expect to be searched. The facility's policy is straightforward: anyone entering is subject to search.
- Do a pocket-and-bag check before you enter - only your photo ID and keys can go into the visitation room; everything else needs to stay in your car or a lobby locker.
- Remove electronics ahead of time - leave cell phones, cameras, and any other electronic devices behind.
- Finish your drink outside - no drinks are allowed in the visitation room.
- Don’t bring items “to drop off” - no packages of any kind are accepted at visitation.
Have a medical device or health care item you need to bring? That's allowed. Just bring only what's necessary and be ready to show or explain the items during screening.
Not sure if something's allowed? Call ahead: 620-694-2741. The facility is at 1800 S. Severance, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
Tip: If you have the Reno County Correctional Facility Visitors Handbook handy, check it before your visit - rules can be detailed, and it’s the best place to confirm what will (and won’t) be allowed through the door.
