When Your Loved One Can Start Receiving Visits at Reno County Correctional Facility

The Reno County Correctional Facility Visitors Handbook puts it simply: an inmate can begin receiving visits as soon as they are put into population. What does that mean? "Put into population" means your loved one has moved past the initial booking stage and been placed into the jail's regular housing, where standard rules (including visitation) apply.

Even with that clear rule, there's often a gap between someone being booked and being placed into population. The handbook doesn't spell out exactly what happens during that window, but jails commonly have an intake period before moving a person into regular housing. That in-between time is usually why a newly booked person isn't immediately available for visits.

When you do go in, bring a valid state or government photo ID that shows your date of birth. Travel light: the handbook says no hand-carried property is allowed in the visitation room except your photo ID and keys. Leave everything else in your vehicle or use the lockers in the lobby. Expect screening at the door, too. Anyone entering the facility is subject to search, and officers will check for warrants and no-contact orders before letting you into the visitation room.
