Sending Packages to Rensselaer County Jail: March 25, 2020 Policy Change and Approved Vendors
Trying to send property, books, or other packages to someone at Rensselaer County Jail? The most important thing to know: drop-offs at the front window are no longer accepted. Shipping rules matter too—packages that don't come from the right kind of seller get sent back.
As of March 25, 2020, Rensselaer County no longer accepts inmate property of any kind at the front window. If you've relied on in-person drop-offs before, you'll need to switch to approved shipping or deposit options. Items brought to the window won't be accepted.
Packages must be shipped directly to the jail from a company whose regular business includes selling and shipping those items - or from a preferred vendor the facility recognizes. Don't try to send a package from home or have a friend mail something from a personal address. It needs to come from a qualifying business.

Warning: Packages that arrive from a company whose ordinary business does not include the sale and shipping of those items will be returned to the sender.
Packages from senders that don't meet the facility's rules get returned. No return address? The jail will dispose of the package according to their property disposal guidelines. Always double-check that your shipment includes a return address before sending.
Include the incarcerated person's name and booking identification number so staff can match the delivery to the right person. Address packages like this: Inmate's Name and Booking Identification Number, Rensselaer County Correctional Facility, 4000 Main Street, Troy, NY 12180.
Need to send money instead? Postal money orders can be mailed directly to the facility - no fee for that option. Don't mail cash or personal checks.
You can also deposit cash in person using the automated KIOSK system in the lobby of the Public Safety Building. It's available 24 hours a day, though a transaction fee applies.
Once a package is accepted, staff will inventory and inspect it for contraband before delivering it to the inmate.
