  • Up to 5 white T-shirts (no other colors, stripes, or logos)
  • Up to 5 pairs of white underwear (no other colors, stripes, or logos)
  • Up to 5 pairs of white socks (no other colors, stripes, or logos)
  • Up to 2 pairs of white long john underwear (tops and bottoms)
  • Up to 2 bras for female inmates (no underwire)
  • 1 green sweatshirt (no pockets, strings, hood, stripes, or logos)
  • 1 pair of green gym shorts (no strings, logos, stripes, or other colors)

If you order multi-packs of underwear, T-shirts, or socks and the package includes more than the allowed amount, the extra pieces won’t be issued right away. The jail inventories the excess items and stores them in the inmate’s property.

Rensselaer County Jail allows one pair of shoes/sneakers, and they must be white or black. Keep them plain: no metal, no stripes, no designs, and no logos, and the cost can’t exceed $75. There’s also a practical limit that trips people up - an inmate can only have one pair of sneakers/footwear in their cell at a time. If your loved one already has a pair, new sneakers are handled as a one-for-one exchange.

Note: Sneakers must be new. Include the receipt or packing slip with your order.

  1. Buy items new - Clothing sent in must be new.
  2. Keep original packaging - Items need to be in their original packaging.
  3. Include proof for sneakers - If you’re sending allowable sneakers, make sure a receipt or packing slip is provided.
  4. Ship from a proper retailer/vendor - Packages must be shipped directly from a company that normally sells and ships these items, or from a preferred vendor such as Amazon, Walmart, Target, or Securepak.

Tip: Check with the inmate before you order. Package types and how often they can receive them may be limited, and coordinating ahead of time helps you avoid sending items that won’t be accepted.
