Before Your Visit: Richmond County Jail Check-In Rules and What to Bring
A little prep goes a long way before a video visit at Richmond County Jail. Use the rules and checklist below so you don't lose visit time at the door.
Plan to check in at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit time at Richmond County Jail. That window is part of the visit process. Build it into your arrival time rather than treating it like a suggestion.
Heads up: Show up late and you may only get whatever time is left in the visit. Depending on the circumstances, you might not be allowed to visit at all.
Accepted IDs
- ✓ Valid Georgia driver’s license (photo ID)
- ✓ Valid driver’s license from another state (photo ID)
- ✓ Valid passport
- ✓ Valid military ID
Only people who are scheduled to visit are allowed into the video visitation area. If you're accompanying someone, don't assume you can go in with them unless you're also on the schedule.
Reminder: Once you leave the video visitation area, you will not be allowed back in during that visit.
Expect your visit to be monitored. Richmond County Jail states that visitors are subject to recording and search, so arrive ready to follow staff instructions and keep things simple when you come in.
No entry: If you appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you will not be admitted into the video visitation area.
Practical Checklist
- ✓ Confirm you are scheduled to visit (only scheduled visitors are allowed into the video visitation area)
- ✓ Bring an accepted photo ID: valid GA or other state driver’s license, valid passport, or valid military ID
- ✓ Check in at least 15 minutes before your scheduled visit time
- ✓ Arrive early enough that a delay does not make you late (late arrivals may get only the remaining time or may be denied)
- ✓ Be prepared to be monitored and subject to recording and search
- ✓ Do not arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- ✓ Do not leave the video visitation area during your visit (no re-entry once you exit)
Give yourself extra cushion so the 15-minute check-in requirement doesn't turn into a missed visit. Travel light, since you can be searched and the visit may be recorded. And if you think you'll need to step out, handle it before you enter the video visitation area. Leaving ends your ability to return.
ID required: Richmond County Jail only accepts a valid GA or other state driver's license, valid passport, or valid military ID at the time of the visit.
