How Lawyers and Legal Staff Can Visit Inmates at Richmond County Jail
Attorneys and legal staff visiting clients at Richmond County Jail (Richmond County Detention Center) need to request visits in advance and bring proper authorization. Follow the steps below to avoid delays.
Give the jail at least 24 hours' notice before your visit. Submit your request by fax or email - this gives staff time to coordinate and ensures your client will be available when you arrive.

For the smoothest experience, schedule your visit Monday through Friday between 12:00 PM and 3:30 PM. The facility specifically designates this window for professional visitors.

Paraprofessional Docs
- ✓ A letter signed by the attorney authorizing the paraprofessional aide to visit (required when the aide is not accompanied by the inmate’s attorney)
- ✓ The letter must be on the attorney’s official letterhead

- ✓ Full name of the person or persons authorized to visit
- ✓ Attorney’s signature
- ✓ Bring this authorization for each visit (unless the attorney accompanies the paraprofessional)
Reminder: Paraprofessionals arriving without a signed letter on official letterhead - and without the attorney present - may be denied entry.
You can't give inmates anything to keep unless a detention officer specifically allows it. Temporary loans are fine - like letting your client use a pen to sign documents - but take everything back before the visit ends.
Plan for a few extra minutes at check-in and checkout. All professional visitors must sign in when they arrive and log out when they leave.
