Why Your Phone Number Is Blocked for Inmate Calls (and How to Fix It)
If calls from Ridgeland Correctional Institution aren't getting through, your number may be blocked. Here's what usually causes it and the fastest ways to fix it.
Billing issues are a common culprit. Some local phone companies don't have a billing agreement with the SCDC's inmate phone provider. Without that agreement, collect calls can't be charged to your phone bill - so the system blocks calls to your number until you set up another payment method.
Sometimes the block is intentional - or accidental. When you receive a call from an SCDC inmate, the phone system offers options to block that specific inmate or all SCDC inmates. If someone in your household selected one of those options (even by mistake), future calls won't come through.
To find out why your number is blocked - or to request a block or removal - contact GTL at 1-866-230-7761. Have the affected phone number ready so you can get answers quickly.
During the call: When you receive a call from an SCDC inmate, you’re given the option to block that inmate from calling your number, or block all SCDC inmates from calling your number.
If collect billing isn't working with your phone company, a GTL PrePay account is a solid workaround. You'll also get discounted call rates. Call 1-800-483-8314 to set one up.
Waiting on a refund while trying to restore phone access is frustrating. If you haven't received your GTL refund within 30 days of submitting the request, call 1-866-640-5445 Monday–Friday, 6am–8pm Eastern.
