How to cancel or change a scheduled Riverbend visit (add visitors, cancel your appointment)
Already have a Riverbend visitation appointment scheduled? You can manage it online through Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) tools—add approved visitors or cancel the appointment entirely.
Adding a visitor and cancelling a visit both start the same way: use GDC's online tool to find your scheduled visitation. Pull up the appointment, then choose your action - add visitors or cancel. If your visit doesn't show up when you search, double-check that you're entering the same information you used when booking.
- Confirm you’re approved to visit - GDC’s process starts with being an approved visitor, which means you’ve filled out the Visitation Request Form and submitted the completed form to the facility where your loved one is incarcerated.
- Open the GDC “find scheduled visitation” option - This is the entry point used to manage an existing appointment.
- Locate your existing appointment - Enter the requested information to pull up the scheduled visit you want to change.
- Choose “Add Visitor” - Select the Add Visitor option for that appointment and follow the prompts to add additional visitors.
- Watch the ID-type rule when you’re entering details - On the GDC forms, a person must be 18 or older to select Driver’s License or State ID as the ID type.
Note: Adding someone to a visit doesn’t replace the approval process - each visitor needs to be approved through the Visitation Request Form submitted to the facility.
- Make sure you’re an approved visitor - Visit changes run through the same system used for approved visitors (which starts with submitting the completed Visitation Request Form to the facility).
- Use GDC’s “Cancel my visit” option to find your appointment - The cancellation tool is designed to pull up your previously scheduled visitation.
- Select the visit you want to cancel - Once your appointment appears, choose the correct date/time.
- Follow the prompts to cancel - Complete the cancellation steps in the system so the appointment is officially removed.
Weekend visits have a deadline. At Riverbend, the cutoff to request weekend visitation is 5:00 PM on Wednesday of that week. Cancel after the cutoff, and you probably won't be able to grab another weekend slot for the same week.
Holiday weeks work differently. For visits falling on state holidays, the cutoff is 5:00 PM three days before the holiday. Cancel close to that window and you may not have time to request a replacement visit.
Tip: If you're close to the Wednesday 5:00 PM cutoff (weekends) or the three-day cutoff (state holidays), try to rebook before you cancel. Miss the deadline and same-week options disappear.
