How to Contact an Inmate at Facility
If your loved one is in the Philadelphia Department of Prisons system, you can avoid delays by using the correct facility address and including their ID number on anything you send.
Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF) is at 7901 State Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19136. Use this address when sending mail to someone housed at CFCF.
The Detention Center (DC) is a separate facility at 8201 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136. Double-check which facility your person is actually in so your mail gets routed correctly.
To reach Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility (CFCF), call (215) 685-7843.
To reach the Detention Center (DC), call (215) 685-8436.
Mail delivery requires two things: the correct facility address and the incarcerated person's ID number. Missing either one can delay delivery or prevent the mail from reaching them at all.
Steps to Follow
- ✓ Address the envelope using this format: John Doe PPN#123456 CFCF 7901 State Rd. Philadelphia, PA 19136
- ✓ Include the incarcerated person’s ID number and the correct facility address every time you send mail
- ✓ If the person is at CFCF, call (215) 685-7843 to confirm any current requirements before you send anything
- ✓ If the person is at the Detention Center (DC), call (215) 685-8436 to confirm any current requirements before you send anything
- ✓ If you include photos, keep them 5 in. x 7 in. or smaller, and remember incarcerated people are allowed to have up to five pictures
- ✓ Do not send photos that show nudity, weapons, money, or drug use
- ✓ Write only with pencil or pen, on plain white paper, and use a plain white envelope (no crayons, no markers, no glitter)
- ✓ If you send books, magazines, or newspapers, they must come directly from approved third-party sellers
- ✓ Do not send hardback books
- ✓ Do not send packages
- Confirm which facility they are in: CFCF uses 7901 State Rd., Philadelphia, PA 19136, while the Detention Center (DC) uses 8201 State Road, Philadelphia, PA 19136.
- Confirm their ID number before you mail anything: Your letter needs the facility address and the incarcerated person’s ID number to be processed correctly.
- Match the address to the facility name on the envelope: Mixing the facility name and the other facility’s address is an easy way to cause a delay.
- Double-check photo limits before you send pictures: Photos must be 5 in. x 7 in. or smaller, the person may have up to five pictures, and images cannot show nudity, weapons, money, or drug use.
- Stick to plain materials: Use only pencil or pen, plain white paper, and a plain white envelope. Do not use crayons, markers, or glitter.
- Confirm publication rules: Books, magazines, and newspapers must come directly from approved third-party sellers, hardback books are not allowed, and packages are not allowed.
