How to Send Money to Someone at RJ Donovan (JPay, Money Orders, MoneyGram)

Deposits for RJ Donovan inmates go through JPay. One thing to know upfront: you can't send money anonymously. JPay shares your name with the Department of Corrections for every transaction, so make sure it's entered correctly. While each payment method has its own per-transaction limit, the Pennsylvania DOC doesn't cap how much can be added to an inmate's account overall. Larger totals are possible - you may just need multiple transactions depending on the method you choose.

Using a credit card through JPay? The limit is $300 per card every 72 hours. If your deposit won't go through, this is often why - you've hit the 72-hour window on that card.

Tip: You can use more than one credit card, but each card still has its own $300 limit every 72 hours.

Money orders through JPay max out at $999.99 each. Need to send more? Split it into multiple money orders rather than writing one for a higher amount.

You can mail multiple money orders at once. That's helpful if you're adding more than $999.99 - just keep each one at or under the limit.

  • Include a valid sender email address or mailing address on the JPay money order deposit form (money orders will not be processed without one)
  • If you need help completing the money order deposit form, call JPay at 800-574-5729

MoneyGram cash/walk-in payments max out at $5,000 per transaction. Sending more? Break it into multiple transactions.

Sending a larger amount overall? Keep "DOC limits" separate from "transaction limits" in your mind. The Pennsylvania DOC doesn't cap how much can be added to an inmate's account - even if a single payment method limits what you can send at once.

  1. Use a bank check (not a personal check) - Estate funds must be sent as a bank check made payable to the inmate; personal checks are not accepted.
  2. Reference the inmate’s ID - Include the inmate ID on the check so it can be credited correctly.
  3. Mail it to the institution - The check can be mailed to the institution where the inmate is housed.

Once JPay posts the funds, the inmate gets a receipt confirming the deposit. If you're coordinating timing for commissary or phone credits, this receipt lets them know the money hit their account.

Inmates also get a monthly account statement listing all transactions. Even if they miss a receipt, they can track deposits and spending on that statement.
