Robeson County Jail does not offer in-person visitation. All visits happen by video through the Smart Mail kiosk.

Robeson County uses SmartJailMail (SmartInmate by Smart Communications) for video visitation. Start by creating an account there. That's where you'll schedule and manage all your visits.

  1. Create your SmartJailMail account - Use your email and set up your login so you can request and manage visits.
  2. Select the correct facility - When prompted, choose Robeson County Jail so your account connects to the right system.
  3. Add the person you want to visit - Have their details handy so you can find them in the directory and attach them to your account.
  4. Keep your information ready for approval checks - It helps to have your basic identifying information available (and any ID details the platform requests) so you are not scrambling mid-signup.

Once you're logged into SmartJailMail and have added your inmate, head to the scheduling area. You'll see available appointment times listed there. Pick the slot that works for you and book it.

Robeson County Jail offers one free 15-minute kiosk visit per inmate per week through the Smart Mail kiosk. If you'd rather not pay for a remote video session, this is the built-in option the jail provides.

  • Confirm you are choosing the kiosk option (not a paid remote visit) when you schedule.
  • Show up early so you have time to get checked in and ready before your slot.
  • Bring your login details and any appointment confirmation information you received.
  • Write down a few quick topics ahead of time. Fifteen minutes goes fast.
  • If the connection is choppy, focus on the essentials first (updates, urgent questions, next steps).

Need to add money to an inmate's trust fund? You can deposit funds at the ATM in the jail lobby using cash or credit card (fees apply). You can also deposit online through McDaniel Supply's website (jailpackstore.com). One thing to know: Robeson County only accepts money orders if they're sent from 50 miles or more away.

  1. Refresh and sign back in - Log out, close the tab, then sign back in to your SmartJailMail account.
  2. Try a different browser or device - If video will not load or you cannot schedule, switch browsers or use a different phone, tablet, or computer.
  3. Check your connection - A weak signal can cause frozen video or dropped audio.
  4. Retry later if the system is busy - If scheduling pages will not load or the visit will not connect, wait a bit and try again.
  5. Escalate when you keep hitting the same error - If you have repeated problems, contact the county IT office contacts listed below.

Tech issues? Robeson County's IT division lists these contacts: Tiffany Cummings (910-671-6444, it@robesoncountysonc.gov) and Jeriah Locklear (910-671-6119, jeriah.locklear@robesoncountync.gov).

Before You Go Checklist

  • Log into your SmartJailMail account before you leave (or before your visit start time).
  • Confirm your appointment time and the visit type (kiosk vs. paid remote).
  • Make sure your device is charged, updated, and on a stable internet connection (if visiting remotely).
  • Keep your login info and any confirmation details where you can access them quickly.
  • If you plan to add funds, decide which method you will use (lobby ATM, online deposit, or qualifying money order).
