How to Send Mail to an Inmate at Robertson County Jail: The Central PO Box, Limits, and What Gets Returned
Mail that doesn't follow Robertson County Jail's processing rules gets returned—or destroyed after scanning. Here's how to send it correctly so your loved one actually receives it.
Since September 1, 2023, Robertson County Jail routes regular inmate mail through a central PO Box. Send letters and standard correspondence to the processing address - not directly to the jail. Legal and medical mail is handled differently.
Note: The jail's posted policy contradicts itself on legal and medical mail - it mentions an exception but also states "No legal or medical mail will be accepted." Call the jail to confirm the correct procedure before sending legal or medical items.
Use the inmate's name and SO (booking) number when addressing mail. The jail specifies this format: Robertson County Jail (Inmate Name) SO# PO Box 591 Longview, Texas 75606.
Everything sent to PO Box 591 gets scanned and delivered to the inmate electronically. The originals aren't returned - they're destroyed after processing. This applies to letters, photos, and anything else you mail to that address.
Stick to standard letter-size paper. Only mail that's 8.5 inches by 11 inches or smaller gets accepted at the PO Box.
Keep it to five pages or fewer. Anything longer won't be scanned or delivered - it gets returned to you.
You can include one photo per mailing - but only one. Send more than that, and the entire letter gets returned. Nothing reaches the inmate.
- ✓ Magazines are not accepted at PO Box 591 and will be returned; send them directly to the facility where the inmate is housed.
- ✓ Newspapers are not accepted at PO Box 591 and will be returned; send them directly to the facility where the inmate is housed.
- ✓ Bulk mail is not accepted at PO Box 591 and will be returned; send it directly to the facility where the inmate is housed.
- ✓ Books are not accepted at PO Box 591 and will be returned; send them directly to the facility where the inmate is housed.
Before sending legal or medical mail: Call Robertson County Jail first. The published policy language is conflicting, so confirm the current procedure directly.
