Before Your First Visit to Rock Island County Jail: ID Requirements and Rules for Kids

If you're 18 or older, bring a valid photo ID. Rock Island County Jail requires all adult visitors to show photo identification - no ID, no visit. Don't assume you can talk your way through check-in. Plan on showing your ID before you ever reach the visitation area.

Kids can visit, but anyone under 18 must come with a parent or legal guardian. That means a minor can’t show up with an older sibling, a family friend, or another relative unless that person is the child’s parent or legal guardian. If you’re bringing children, make sure the right adult is the one walking in with them.

Reminder: Rock Island County Jail does not allow children to be left unsupervised during visits, including being left in the lobby or annex without an adult.

Plan your group size before you go. Rock Island County Jail allows no more than four visitors per detainee in the visitation area at any time - and that headcount includes minors under 18. If you arrive with five people, you should expect someone will have to sit out.

Visits are 30 minutes long, with no exceptions. If you’re traveling from out of town or coordinating around school and work, build your day around that time limit so you’re not rushing or disappointed.

There's also a visitor-list rule that affects whether you can visit at all. When someone is booked into Rock Island County Jail, they receive a Visitor Registration Form and can list up to five visitors (minors don't count toward that five). If the detainee already has five people listed and wants to add someone new, they have to remove a current visitor first - by writing the name to be removed on the back of the new registration form. Visitor list changes are only allowed on the first day of each month, so timing matters if you're not on the list yet.
