The process starts when you add the inmate to your visitor profile. Search using their 8-digit TDCJ or SID number, select your relationship from the dropdown, and click Request Approval. After you confirm, the request goes to the inmate's unit of assignment. TDCJ staff will verify your relationship before you can schedule anything.
While your request is pending, you won't see any scheduling options. The request stays listed on your visitor home page under Relation Requests Pending Approval until staff completes verification.
Once staff confirms the relationship, it won't just disappear - it moves. You'll find that person listed under Verified Inmate Relations in your account. If online scheduling is available, a Schedule Visit button will appear next to their name. That's your signal to start picking a time.
Even after verification, your visit options may vary. The system lists different types (Regular, Contact, Video/Tablet), but not every type is available for every inmate. What you're offered depends on your verified relationship, the facility's visitation setup, and the inmate's current privileges.
If you see “Call Unit” (or the button is blank): That usually means online scheduling isn’t available for that inmate or facility right now. Call the inmate’s unit of assignment to arrange the visit.
