Sending Mail to the Annex: Where to Send Mail for Rowan County Annex Inmates

Rowan County operates more than one detention location. The Annex facility has four dormitories housing up to 160 inmates. This can trip people up when sending mail - the mailing address doesn't change based on housing. If the person you're writing is at the Annex on Grace Church Road, their mail still goes to the main Detention Center.

Don't address mail to the Annex location. Even if someone is housed at the Annex on Grace Church Road, send everything to the main Detention Center. Before mailing anything, double-check where the inmate is currently housed - people move between locations, and getting the address right keeps your mail from getting delayed.

• ✓ Verify the inmate’s current housing location before sending mail, and remember that Annex inmate mail still goes to the main Detention Center.

Avoid Returned

• ✓ Put the inmate’s ID number on the front of the envelope.
• ✓ If you mail a money order, write the inmate’s ID number on the money order.
• ✓ Include a physical return address on all mail; a PO Box alone isn’t acceptable, and noncompliant mail will be returned to sender.

1. Confirm where the inmate is housed - check their current location before you send anything.
2. Get the inmate ID number - include it on the front of the envelope, and on any money order you mail.
3. Add a physical return address - a PO Box by itself can cause the mail to be returned.
4. Route Annex mail to the main facility - if they’re at the Annex on Grace Church Road, send the mail to the main Detention Center.
