Before Your First Visit to Roxbury: What to Bring, What to Leave Behind

A first visit to Roxbury Correctional Institution goes more smoothly when you pack light. Below you'll find what you can actually bring into the visiting room (very little), what needs to stay in the front lobby, rules for visiting with kids, group size limits, and who to contact if you have a special situation like life-saving medication.

Visitors cannot carry any items into the visiting room at Roxbury Correctional Institution. The one exception is life-saving medication. If you need to bring yours, let the Front Lobby Officer know before your visit so it's handled properly at check-in.

Keep jewelry to a minimum. Roxbury requires visitors to remove all jewelry before entering the visiting room, including tongue, ear, and facial piercings.

The two exceptions: wedding ring sets and medic alert jewelry can stay on. Everything else needs to come off before you go in.

  2. Store removed items in the Front Lobby lockers - Roxbury provides lockers in the Front Lobby for the jewelry you take off.

Bringing an infant? Pack even lighter than usual. No infant paraphernalia is allowed in the visiting room at Roxbury, except a pacifier.

All minors must be supervised and kept under control by the accompanying adult at all times. If that can't be maintained, the visit may be ended early.

Keep your group small. Roxbury allows a maximum of three adults per visit.

Up to three minors are also allowed per visit. Since kids must stay supervised and under control, plan your group accordingly so your visit doesn't get cut short.
