If you're checking the online unit visitation information, keep the update schedule in mind: once daily on weekdays, multiple times per day on visitation days. What you saw earlier might not reflect the current situation by the time you leave.

Call the unit before you head out. Even with online updates, a quick phone check is the most reliable way to catch any last-minute changes.

Bring photo identification. Not sure if your ID will work? Review the TDCJ list of acceptable photo IDs before you go - getting turned away at the door is no fun.

  • ✓ If you bring coins, keep the total at $35 or less.

Warning: Cell phones are prohibited inside the secure perimeter. Leave yours in the car or somewhere outside the gate.

If you’ve been removed from an inmate’s Visitors List and you believe it was a mistake, you can submit a written appeal. Mail it to: Director's Review Committee (DRC), PO Box 99, Huntsville, TX 77342.

Don’t wait to act. The appeal has to be submitted within 14 days of the date on the written notice of removal.

Spiritual visits work differently than standard visitation. They're coordinated through the unit warden's office, so call ahead to confirm your request and arrangements are in place before making the trip.
