How to Find Someone in Louisiana Custody (LAVNS & the Imprisoned Person Locator)

LAVNS is one of the main ways to locate someone in DPS&C custody. The database updates every 24 hours, so a recent move or new intake may not show up right away. If you don't see results immediately, check back the next day.

For the best results on LAVNS, search using the person's full name plus any other identifiers you have. The system supports searches by name, location, and ID or case number - so try multiple combinations if your first search comes up empty. When you find a match, you'll see their current status and where they're assigned within DPS&C custody.

Prefer talking to a person? Call the Imprisoned Person Locator at 225-383-4580. You'll need either the person's DPS&C number or their name and date of birth. Have that info ready before you call - it speeds things up and helps avoid mix-ups with similar names.
