Before You Visit Someone at Sabine Parish Detention: ID, What to Wear, What You Can Bring

Before making the trip, confirm you're on the imprisoned person's approved visiting list. Not sure? Ask the person you're planning to visit directly - facility staff won't give out visiting-list information over the phone.

Note: If you want the official rulebook for visitation, you can request a copy of Department Regulation OP-C-9 from the facility.

Plan to check in when you arrive. All visitors must register with staff before entering the visiting area, so build in some extra time for that step.

  • Valid state driver’s license (bring it every visit if you’re 18+)
  • Valid state photo ID card (18+)
  • Valid active-duty military photo ID (18+)
  • Valid passport (18+)

Dress-standards

  • Clothing that looks like incarcerated people’s clothing
  • Clothing that looks like correctional officer-style clothing (including camouflage)
  • Sheer or transparent clothing
  • Swimwear
  • Tops that expose your midriff
  • Strapless, tube, or halter tops
  • Tight fitting pants such as spandex, lycra, or spandex-like athletic pants
  • Skirts, shorts, skorts, culottes, or dresses shorter than three inches above the kneecap
  • Going without shoes (shoes must be worn)

Expect security screening. All visitors - including minors - can be searched. This includes your property, your vehicle, and your person. Screening may involve metal detectors and ion scanning, and K-9 units are sometimes used as well.

  • Controlled substances
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tobacco or tobacco-related items
  • Cameras or recording equipment (video or audio)
  • Electronic devices, including cell phones and pagers

Need medication during your visit? Only prescribed life-saving or life-sustaining medication is allowed - things like nitroglycerine, inhalers, or oxygen. Bring just what you need for the visit, and let staff at the visiting desk know you have it with you.

  • Four diapers
  • Two jars of vacuum-sealed baby food
  • Two plastic bottles
  • One change of clothing
  • One baby blanket (maximum 48 inches)
  • One clear plastic bag of baby wipes
  • Pack everything except the blanket in a single clear plastic container; all items are subject to search

Bringing kids? Plan for close supervision. Anyone under 18 must stay with a parent or legal guardian at all times while on facility grounds - they can't be left alone.

Need ADA accommodations? Contact the facility ahead of time so staff can prepare for what you need.

Reminder: The warden - or staff designated by the warden - can end a visit at any time if they believe it’s necessary for safety or security.
