How to Pick Up an Inmate's Property from Sacramento Main Jail

Call the Forensics and Evidence Bureau Property Unit at (916) 875-5650 before you go. Confirm the property is available and ready for release. Once you get the green light, head to 3750 Bradview Drive, Sacramento, CA 95827.

The Property Unit handles pickups Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. They're closed on holidays, so call ahead during holiday weeks.

How to Pick Up an Inmate's Property from Sacramento Main Jail

ID Requirements

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (driver license)
  • Valid government-issued photo ID (military ID)
  • Valid government-issued photo ID (passport)
  • Wristband IDs from correctional facilities or hospitals are not accepted

You'll need to take everything that's being released - Sacramento Main Jail doesn't allow partial pickups. Bring a bag, a box, or an extra set of hands if needed. Showing up unprepared means you won't be able to complete the pickup.

Clothing isn’t released: You may not receive the inmate’s clothing when picking up property.

Medication won’t be returned: Prescription and over-the-counter medications are not released. For prescriptions, the Property Unit will only release the empty container with the prescription label.

Trying to recover marijuana? You'll need a court order signed by a Superior Court judge, plus the court clerk's seal showing it was officially filed. Without this paperwork, you won't get it back.

The Property Warehouse doesn't mail anything. You'll need to pick up in person.

Even if you only want one item, you'll need to take everything in the release. Call the Property Unit first to confirm what's included, then plan to transport the full lot.
