The Right Way to Address Mail to Sacramento Main Jail Inmates (Securus Digital Mail Center)
Sacramento County routes general inmate mail through the Securus Digital Mail Center—so the address format matters. Miss a required identifier, and your letter could be delayed or returned.
Since November 1, 2023, Sacramento County has processed general inmate mail through the Securus Digital Mail Center. Don't send your envelope to the jail - address it to the mail center instead. Include the incarcerated person's name and X-Reference number, then address it to: C/O Securus Digital Mail Center–Sacramento Main, PO BOX 431, Lebanon, MO 65536. Match the format exactly, and your mail should move through without a hitch.
Example (general mail): Your Full Name, Your Full Address (return address on the envelope) Incarcerated Person Name + X-Reference # C/O Securus Digital Mail Center–Sacramento Main PO BOX 431 Lebanon, MO 65536
The X-Reference number and housing location aren't optional. Include both on everything you mail - that's how staff route items to the right person in a facility this size. Always put your full return name and address on the envelope. If something can't be delivered, that's what gets it back to you instead of lost in limbo.
- ✓ Incarcerated person’s full name
- ✓ X-Reference number
- ✓ Housing location
- ✓ Your full return name
- ✓ Your complete return address (street, city, state, ZIP)
Mail rules here are strict. Items that don't meet requirements can be returned or confiscated. Photos trip people up more than anything else - even allowed pictures are limited by how many an incarcerated person can keep at one time. Keep photos simple and within the stated limits. If your mailing includes photos, treat them as the highest-risk part and double-check before sealing the envelope.
- ✓ Photos larger than 4"x6" or Polaroid photos
- ✓ More than ten (10) photographs in the incarcerated person’s possession at any given time
- ✓ Mail containing bubble wrap or plastic
- ✓ Padded envelopes
Reminder: Disallowed items - or photos that push someone over the 10-photo limit - can get your mail rejected, returned, or confiscated.
Sending money? Sacramento County only accepts money orders - no cash, no personal checks. Your mailing still needs to follow the same rules, including all required identifiers.
Tip: Include your full return name and address, and use the same Securus Digital Mail Center format you'd use for general mail.
