How to Schedule Your First Visit at Sacramento County Main Jail

Each inmate at Sacramento County Main Jail can receive two 45-minute social visits per week, running Sunday through Saturday. Those are the key numbers to remember when planning your first trip.

You'll need valid ID to register for a visit. Sacramento County Main Jail accepts a current driver's license or DMV ID card (from any U.S. state or Mexico), a current military ID, a current passport, or a current Mexican consular (MCAS) ID.

Keep your group to three people or fewer - that includes infants and children. You can only visit one inmate per trip, so if you need to see multiple people, plan on separate visits.

You'll go through a metal detector and may be searched at entry. Refusing either one can get your visit denied.

Visits work on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on space and time. There's no advance reservation - just pick a time slot and show up prepared. Whether you get in depends on how crowded the visit area is when you arrive.
