How to Get an Inmate's Medical Information from St. Lucie County Jail
Getting medical information from a jail isn't as simple as calling and asking. At St. Lucie County Jail, you'll need the inmate's written permission on file first—then you can follow the jail's process to request and receive details.
To receive an inmate’s medical information from St. Lucie County Jail, you must have an active Release of Information (ROI) form on file. Without that ROI, staff can’t share medical details with you - even if you’re a close family member.
No ROI on file for you? The inmate has to complete one. You'll need to ask them directly - nursing staff cannot request that the inmate fill out an ROI on your behalf.
Once you've confirmed an ROI is active, call the jail's medical information line: 772-672-8582. This line handles medical inquiries only, so keep your message focused on the specific health information you need.
Calls to the medical line are reviewed and returned within 48 hours, Monday through Friday. If you leave a message over the weekend, expect a callback during the next business days.
To actually receive the health information, you'll need to go to the jail in person at 900 N. Rock Road, Fort Pierce. Bring a valid driver's license or state ID so staff can verify you're the person listed on the inmate's ROI.
HIPAA - the federal patient privacy law - shapes this entire process. Medical personnel can't share inmate health information with anyone unless the inmate has given written consent. That's why the ROI is non-negotiable.
Medical care at the jail comes from a contracted health care company, not the jail itself. As of March 1, 2024, the St. Lucie County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) manages the contract with the inmate medical provider.
