How to Schedule a Personal Visit at Salem County Jail (Wednesday night call window)
Scheduling a personal visit at Salem County Jail comes down to one thing: calling during the Wednesday night booking window and grabbing an open time slot.
Salem County Jail only takes scheduling calls on Wednesday nights from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. That call books you for the upcoming weekend. Appointments are first-come, first-served based on call order. Each visit lasts 40 minutes, and the jail books five appointments per slot. Openings can go quickly once the lines open.
Note: Scheduling is first-come, first-served during the Wednesday 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. window, and each 40-minute slot only has five appointment spots.
Personal visits run in 40-minute blocks. Saturday slots are 8:00 a.m. to 8:40 a.m., 9:00 a.m. to 9:40 a.m., 10:00 a.m. to 10:40 a.m., 12:30 p.m. to 1:10 p.m., 1:30 p.m. to 2:10 p.m., 2:30 p.m. to 3:10 p.m., 7:30 p.m. to 8:10 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. to 9:10 p.m. Sunday has fewer options: 8:00 a.m. to 8:40 a.m., 9:00 a.m. to 9:40 a.m., and 12:30 p.m. to 1:10 p.m.
Phone Strategy
- ✓ Call on Wednesday night between 7:30 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. (calls are only accepted during that window)
- ✓ Do not call days or weeks in advance; you cannot book early
- ✓ Be ready to schedule while you are on the phone, since appointments are taken in the order calls are received
- ✓ If you cannot get through or you are unsure what to do next, ask the jail for the correct next step (for example, whether you should keep calling back)
To book a personal visit, call 856-769-4300, extension 7790, on Wednesday night before the weekend you want to visit.
"First-come, first-served" means your place in line depends on when your call is answered, not when you started dialing. If lots of people are calling at once, getting through early improves your chances of landing the time you want. Since each 40-minute slot only holds five appointments, have a backup time in mind. If your first choice is full, you can grab another slot instead of hanging up empty-handed.
Reminder: Visits are 40 minutes long, and each 40-minute time slot can only fit five scheduled appointments.
Before spending time on hold Wednesday night, confirm the person you want to visit is eligible. Salem County Jail requires inmates to be incarcerated for at least 90 days before they can receive personal visits, and each inmate is limited to one personal visit per month. If those limits apply, calling during the booking window won't change anything.
