In-person visits at Sampson Correctional Institution (and other NCDAC prisons) are by appointment only. To schedule one, call or email the prison where your loved one is housed and request a time slot.

Even after you've scheduled, call the prison the day before to confirm visitation is still on. Schedules can shift due to day-to-day operations, and that quick check can save you a wasted trip.

Expect security screening at the entrance. Every visitor must pass through a metal detector before entering the facility.

Dress matters. The baseline rule is simple: shirts and shoes are mandatory for every visitor. If you're unsure about an outfit, go more conservative so you don't risk being turned away at check-in.

Prohibited Items

  • Cellphones
  • Smartwatches
  • Cameras
  • Recording devices
  • Smart/AI glasses

If getting there in person is tough, NCDAC also allows video visits. So your contact options typically include either an in-person appointment at the prison or a video visit from home.

Video visits happen through the Getting Out Visits app. You must be on the incarcerated person's approved visitors list. Visits can be on-demand or scheduled for a specific date and time.

Under normal circumstances, each incarcerated person can have one visiting session per week, lasting up to two hours. The usual maximum is three approved visitors per session. If more people want to come, you may need to rotate visits week to week.

Note: The facility warden can change visiting times, how often visits happen, how long they last, and how many visits are allowed, based on security or operational needs.

Previsit Checklist

  • Schedule your in-person visit ahead of time (visits are appointment only, set up by calling or emailing the prison)
  • Call the day before your scheduled visit to confirm the facility’s visitation status
  • Leave prohibited electronics and recording devices at home (including phones and smartwatches)
  • Wear a shirt and shoes

Before heading inside, you'll go through a metal detector. Wearing a lot of metal (or bringing items that set it off) can slow down entry, so keep what you carry simple.
