What You Can (and Cannot) Bring to a Visit at San Francisco County Jail #2

Allowed Items

  • Your keys
  • Your government-issued photo ID
  • If you’re visiting with an infant: one blanket
  • If you’re visiting with an infant: one bottle or pacifier

Bringing a child? Plan to stay together the whole time. No one under 18 can visit without a parent or legal guardian present, and that adult must remain with the minor for the entire visit. You can't hand them off to another adult partway through.

Contraband Arrest

  • Firearms
  • Explosives
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Any controlled substance, including marijuana

Warning: If you show up under the influence of drugs or alcohol, your visit can be cancelled and you may be subject to arrest.

Don’t bring snacks, coffee, water, or anything similar - no food or drinks are permitted in the visiting areas.

Leave electronics in your car. Cell phones, recording devices, MP3 players - none of it is allowed in the visiting area.

  1. Arrive early enough to check in - You must be present in the lobby 10 minutes before your appointment.
  2. Bring only what you can carry in - Since you can’t take personal items into the visiting area, plan to leave extras outside.
  3. Use a lobby locker if you need to - There are lockers available in the lobby to secure personal items, but the number is limited.
