How Many Times Can You Visit and How Long Is Each Visit at San Joaquin Jail?

Planning a visit to San Joaquin County Jail? Two rules matter most: each inmate gets two visits per week, and every visit is capped at a strict 45 minutes.

Each inmate at San Joaquin County Jail is allowed two visits per week. The weekly window runs Monday through Sunday. There's also a once-per-day limit. You can only visit once in a day, even if you're trying to visit at a different San Joaquin County Jail location. If you're coordinating with other family members, plan ahead so you don't accidentally burn your one daily visit on a less convenient time slot.

Note: Group size depends on the location. South Jail and Jail Core allow up to three people per visit (including infants and children), while Honor Farm allows only two (including infants and children).

Every visit at San Joaquin County Jail lasts exactly 45 minutes. No exceptions. Arriving late or dealing with a slow check-in won't get you extra time, so plan your day accordingly. If you're visiting with kids or coordinating with multiple relatives, decide ahead of time who's going in. The clock starts and ends on the facility's schedule, not yours.

Warning: Overstaying during a visit may result in loss of visit privileges.

Once your visit starts, think of it as a one-way door. If you leave the visiting room for any reason after the visit has begun, it's over. Even stepping out briefly will end it. Use the restroom and handle everything you need before you go in.

Visiting hours run 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Wednesdays have extended hours: 8:00 am to 7:00 pm. If you need a later time slot, Wednesday is your best option.

Being within the weekly and daily limits doesn't guarantee a spot. Visiting space is limited, and visits are first-come, first-served. If the rooms are already booked, you'll need to pick a different time or come back another day.

  1. Call the visiting site to set the appointment. Visits require an appointment made through the visiting location.
  2. Sign up at least 30 minutes before the next available visit. If you miss that cutoff, you can lose your chance at the next open time.

Staff will end the visit at the 45-minute mark, no exceptions. Start wrapping up your conversation a few minutes early so you're not caught off guard when time is called. And remember: leaving the visiting room after the visit has started ends it immediately. If there's any chance you'll need to step out, take care of it before you go in.
