What to Wear (and What Not to Wear) to Visit Santa Ana Jail
Santa Ana Jail expects visitors to dress appropriately. Show up in the wrong outfit, and you'll be turned away at the door. Behavior matters too. Lewd conduct or other inappropriate behavior can get your visiting privileges suspended. Choose an outfit that won't draw attention or cause problems at check-in.
Permitted Measurements
- ✓ Shorts - no higher than 3 inches from the knee.
- ✓ Skirts - no higher than 3 inches from the knee.
If you’re visiting in a professional capacity, there’s an extra restriction to plan around: professional visitors will not be allowed to wear shorts during contact visits. Even if your shorts meet the “no higher than 3 inches from the knee” rule, choose a different option for a contact visit.
Prohibited Clothing
- ✓ Sundresses
- ✓ Halter tops
- ✓ Bathing suits
- ✓ See-through clothing
- ✓ Crop tops
- ✓ Low-cut blouses or dresses
- ✓ Miniskirts
- ✓ Backless tops/dresses
- ✓ Sleeveless garments
- ✓ Hats, caps, beanies, or du-rags
- ✓ Sunglasses (vision impaired exception)
- ✓ Dresses or skirts with slit opening(s) extending 3 inches above the knee in the back, front, or side
Santa Ana Jail also prohibits anything that resembles inmate clothing. If you're not sure whether something could be mistaken for jail-issued attire, pick a different outfit. There's also a catch-all rule: any clothing deemed provocative, revealing, or unsuitable for order and security is prohibited during personal visits. Dressing conservatively is your safest bet - even if your outfit isn't specifically named on the restricted list.
For professional visitors, keep it simple and conservative - especially for contact visits. Shorts aren't allowed during those visits, so long pants are the way to go.
- ✓ Dress kids (and yourself) in a way that’s clearly appropriate so your group isn’t denied entry to the visiting area.
- ✓ Keep the visit calm and respectful - lewd conduct or other inappropriate behavior can result in visiting privileges being suspended.
