Before You Arrive: What You Can and Can’t Bring to Sarpy County Visits
Sarpy County keeps it simple: walk into the visitation area with nothing in your hands. Any personal items need to go in a locker or stay in your vehicle before your visit starts.
Assume you can't carry anything into the visitation room. Personal property goes in a locker or stays in your vehicle - keep what you bring to the building minimal. Food, drinks, and cell phones aren't allowed in the waiting area or the visitation area. Even if you're just waiting, those items have to stay put away.
- ✓ Register in advance before arriving at the SCC if you’re able to.
- ✓ Arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled visitation time so you have time to secure belongings and be ready to enter at the start of the visit.
Prohibited Items
- ✓ Cell phones (also not allowed in the waiting area)
- ✓ Food or drinks (not allowed in the waiting area or visitation area)
- ✓ Writing instruments (pens, pencils, markers)
- ✓ Paper
- ✓ Electronic devices (including games)
- ✓ Weapons
- ✓ Photographs
- ✓ Purses
- ✓ Briefcases
Show up with personal property? Secure it before you visit - either in a locker or your vehicle. This applies to all personal items, and it's a common reason visits get delayed. Nobody wants to turn around at check-in to stash their stuff.
Medical needs are handled differently. Medically authorized prosthetic appliances are permitted during visits - wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and artificial limbs are all allowed.
Need prescription medication during your visit? You can bring it - but only in the original container. Loose pills in a pocket, transferred bottles, or mixed medications won't fly. You'll be told to secure them with your other belongings.
- Enter through the SCC Reception entrance - That’s the entry point for on-site visitors.
- Register in advance if you can - Do it before you arrive at the SCC unless you’re unable to.
- Show up 30 minutes early - You need to be ready to enter the visitation room right at the start of your scheduled time.
- Secure everything before the visit begins - Put personal property in a locker or leave it in your vehicle so you’re not scrambling at the last minute.
Reminder: Unsecured belongings can eat into your visit time. Arrive 30 minutes early and plan to carry nothing into the visitation area.
