How to Send Money to an Inmate at Sayle Unit (All Your Options)
Sending money to someone at the Sayle Unit is straightforward once you know two things: who can send, and which deposit method works best for you. Here are the options available through TDCJ's Inmate Trust Fund, plus one key rule that can stop a deposit before it starts.
As of September 1, 2020, TDCJ limits who can deposit money for an incarcerated person at the Sayle Unit. Only senders on the inmate's approved visitor list or telephone list can make deposits. Before sending funds, confirm you're on one of those lists. Otherwise, your deposit will be rejected.
Methods Overview
- ✓ Money Orders or Cashier’s Checks
- ✓ Vendor deposit services (including options such as Access Corrections Secure Deposits, ACE (America’s Cash Express), eCommDirect provided by Texas.gov, JPay, and TouchPay)
- ✓ Monthly Checking Account Debit (ACH), which automatically debits a set amount from a personal checking account once each month for deposit to a specified offender
Note: TDCJ publishes a commissary price list, but some commissary items are not available at every commissary location.
Want something predictable? The monthly checking account debit (ACH) option lets you choose a set amount that's automatically debited from your checking account once a month and deposited to a specific offender. To enroll, complete the ACH authorization form and attach a voided check from the account that will be debited. No voided check means no enrollment.
- Plan for the monthly debit. The debit transaction occurs on or around the 5th day of each month.
- Watch for the account credit. The funds are credited to the offender’s account on or around the 10th.
Mail the completed ACH authorization form and voided check to: Inmate Trust Fund, PO Box 629, Huntsville, Texas 77342-0629.
Practical Tips
- ✓ Confirm you are on the inmate’s approved visitor list, or on the inmate telephone list, before you attempt any deposit
- ✓ If you are not on one of those lists, get that fixed first, then send money
Whichever method you choose, follow the instructions closely. ACH requires both the authorization form and a voided check, and it runs on a fixed schedule (debit around the 5th, credit around the 10th). That makes it a poor choice for last-minute needs. Planning to fund commissary purchases? Check current pricing ahead of time, and keep in mind that item availability varies by commissary location.
