Setting Up to Receive Phone Calls from Sayle Unit (Registration & Troubleshooting)

Before you can receive phone calls from someone at Sayle Unit, your number needs to be registered. Here's how to set that up, which phone types work, and what to check if calls aren't connecting.

Calls from TDCJ inmates won't reach you until your phone number is registered at texasprisonphone.com. Without registration, calls fail before they ever get to you, even if the caller has money in their account.

You'll need the inmate's TDCJ ID number to register. If you don't have it, look it up using the online inmate search or call before you start.

Help by phone: To find an inmate’s TDCJ number by phone, call (936) 295-6371 or (800) 535-0283, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Vendor telephone support is (866) 806-7804.

TDCJ only allows calls to certain phone types: home landlines, post-paid cell phones, or pre-paid cell phones. Other number types may not register properly or may fail to connect.

  • Internet-based phone services
  • 800 numbers
  • Business phone numbers
  • Pay phones
  • International numbers

Registration checks more than just the number. The name on your driver license or state ID must match the name on the phone bill or listing. If the account is under someone else's name (a spouse, parent, or roommate), the system may block registration or reject calls.

  • You must be the registered owner of the phone number
  • You must be at least 18 years old
  • You must agree to allow the inmate to call the registered number
  • Do not forward these calls
  • Do not make three-way calls
  • Do not use speakerphone during calls
  1. Check what kind of number you registered. Calls are only allowed to a home landline, a post-paid cell phone, or a pre-paid cell phone.
  2. Switch to an allowed number if needed. If the number is tied to an internet service, an 800 number, a business line, a pay phone, or an international number, it will not be allowed.
  3. Re-register the new number. After you have an eligible number, go back through the registration process on texasprisonphone.com so the system recognizes it.
  1. Match the name on your ID to the phone billing records. The name on your driver license or state ID needs to appear on the telephone listing or bill used to register.
  2. Make sure you are registering your own line. During registration you must confirm you are the registered owner of the number, and that you are at least 18.
  3. Turn off call forwarding and keep the call simple. Forwarded calls, three-way calls, and speakerphone use are not allowed for calls you receive from the inmate.
  4. Register again after changes. If you updated billing details or changed numbers, complete registration again so the system picks up the corrected information.

If you are still blocked: After you have confirmed the number type is allowed and your registration details match, call vendor telephone support at (866) 806-7804 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
