Where to Mail Letters, Photos, and Publications for Someone at SCI Muncy
Where you send mail to SCI Muncy depends on what you're sending. Regular letters and photos go through Smart Communications, while books and magazines go through the DOC Security Processing Center (SPC).
For general mail to someone at SCI Muncy - letters, greeting cards, kids' drawings, photos - send it to Smart Communications, the Pennsylvania DOC's mail processor. Address it like this: Smart Communications/PA DOC Inmate Name/Inmate Number, State Correctional Institution, PO Box 33028, St. Petersburg, Florida 33733.
Double-check the person's name and inmate number before mailing. The envelope needs the full, correct inmate name and number - otherwise it won't get routed properly.
Always include a complete return address with your first and last name. Missing or incomplete return addresses can mean your mail doesn't get processed - and it may not be returned to you either.
Photo reminder: Keep photo mailings to 25 photos per envelope, and don’t send anything with obscenity, explicit sexual material, or nudity. Originals can’t be returned and will be securely destroyed after 45 days.
Books, magazines, and other publications (including photo books) don't go to Smart Communications. These need to be mailed to the DOC's Security Processing Center (SPC) for screening: Inmate Name, Inmate Number, 268 Bricker Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823-1667.
Publications must come from an original-source vendor - a publisher, bookstore, or online distributor. Don't mail books or magazines yourself; they're only accepted from those original sources.
Photo book limits: Photo books must come from a third-party vendor, have a soft cover, be 25 pages or less (not counting the cover), and be no larger than 8" x 11". They also have to meet DOC content criteria.
Official documents and original IDs - birth certificates, Social Security cards, driver's licenses - are handled separately from regular letters. Mail these directly to the institution, addressing the envelope to: "Attn: Business Office – Inmate name/inmate number," followed by the facility address.
Some institutions have a separate mailing address for official documents. Before sending anything irreplaceable, check the facility page - if a separate mailing address is listed, use that for all official and original documents.
Sending photos? Stick to 25 per mailing. Photo books have specific requirements: soft cover, 25 pages max (excluding the cover), no larger than 8" x 11", and ordered from a third-party vendor.
Before you send photos: Avoid any nudity, obscenity, or explicit sexual material. Originals won’t be returned and will be securely destroyed after 45 days.
