Sending Money to an Inmate at SCI Waymart: JPay, Money Orders, and Deposit Limits

SCI Waymart processes all credit card and money order deposits through JPay. This is the only approved vendor. If anyone asks you to send money elsewhere - to a different website, email address, or individual - that's a scam. Don't do it, even if the message sounds urgent or looks legitimate.

Sending Money to an Inmate at SCI Waymart: JPay, Money Orders, and Deposit Limits

The easiest option is depositing online through the JPay website. It's the approved vendor for all Pennsylvania Department of Corrections facilities, including SCI Waymart.

Prefer to deposit by phone? Call JPay at 800-574-5729 and follow the prompts to add funds.

  1. Get a deposit slip - you’ll need to include one with the money order.
  2. Fill out the deposit slip completely - include the inmate ID number, the inmate’s name, and your (the sender’s) name and address.
  3. Make out your money order - keep it ready to mail with the completed deposit slip.
  4. Mail the money order to JPay - money orders must be sent to JPay for deposit processing.

Lobby kiosks at Pennsylvania state prisons - including SCI Waymart - also accept deposits through JPay. Convenient if you're already there for a visit and want to add funds in person.

Know the deposit limits before you send anything. Credit cards max out at $300 per card every 72 hours. Money orders can't exceed $999.99 each. Cash and walk-in deposits through MoneyGram allow up to $5,000 per transaction.

  • Include a deposit slip with the money order.
  • On the deposit slip, write the inmate ID number and inmate name.
  • On the deposit slip, add the sender’s name and address.
  • Keep each money order at $999.99 or less.
  • Save your money order receipt/copy for your records.

Once JPay posts the funds, the inmate gets an individual receipt. They also receive a monthly account statement showing all transactions. On your end, save your confirmation details and money order stubs - you'll want them if there's ever a question about whether a payment went through.

Note: Don’t include letters or notes with your payment. Those enclosures will be discarded.

Another common mistake: sending too much at once. Money orders over $999.99 can cause delays. Keep each one under the limit, and use multiple money orders if you need to send more.
