How to Register Your Phone to Receive Calls from Wayne Scott Unit (what you'll need and rules to follow)
Phone calls from someone at the Wayne Scott Unit won't come through unless your number is registered and approved under TDCJ's phone rules. Here's what you need to confirm, how to get registered, and the call rules you'll need to follow.
Before you can receive calls, you'll need to meet a few requirements. You must be the registered owner of the phone number - TDCJ checks this against your identity, so your name on your driver license or state ID needs to match what's on your phone bill or listing. You also have to be at least 18 years old and agree to allow the inmate to call your number.
Here's something that catches people off guard: registering your phone isn't enough on its own. Your number also has to be on the inmate's approved calling list. The inmate can't speak with any adult whose number isn't on that list - so make sure you're added there too.
- ✓ Don’t forward calls you receive from the inmate.
- ✓ Don’t use three-way calling.
- ✓ Don’t use speakerphone during the call.
Registration happens through TDCJ's Friends & Family Enrollment online. You'll need to register a number you personally own - they enforce the registered owner requirement. Have the inmate's TDCJ ID number ready so you can link your registration to the right person.
Once calls are set up, expect firm limits. Each call maxes out at 30 minutes, with an automated warning one minute before disconnection. Keep privacy in mind too: all calls are monitored and recorded, except calls to the attorney of record.
Not every phone number works. Calls can only go to home landlines, post-paid cell phones, and pre-paid cell phones. Internet service numbers, 800 numbers, businesses, pay phones, and international numbers are all blocked - if your number falls into one of those categories, you won't be able to receive inmate calls.
Reminder: Inmates can only call approved numbers. No forwarding calls, no three-way calling, and no speakerphone. Break these rules and you risk losing phone privileges.
Video visits are a separate service from regular phone calls. For Securus remote video visits, you’ll register through the Securus website following their directions. If something isn’t working on the Securus side, their Customer Service Center can help at (877) 578-3658.
Need help with the phone system? TDCJ Inmate Technology Services offers two contact options: their online contact form or email at offenderphones@tdcj.texas.gov. Office phone hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., except state-recognized holidays (effective February 2, 2026). Hours can vary across TDCJ pages, so double-check before calling.
